THINK SPRING!
Peppermint is a flowering perennial, native to Europe and has since been naturalized worldwide. It is a natural hybrid of spearmint and watermint. This plant has dark brownish-purple-green leaves, with light purple to white blossoms, and a strong aromatic minty scent.
The cultivation of peppermint oil started in the US in the 1790's and it was a major export business by the mid 1800's. The US is still the world's leading producer of peppermint oil. Peppermint also was seen as an important herb in ancient times; the ancient Greeks as well as the Assyrians used this herb often in religious ceremonies.
Today, peppermint is commonly known to be used for helping upset and nervous stomachs, and expelling gas. The oil is also known to be used externally on your forehead and scalp to help treat migraines and headaches.
Precautions: May increase heartburn in people if they already have issues with acid reflux *
We love to use dried Peppermint in tea blends for uplifting your mood or even in tea blends to help calm nervous tummies. It's also a great herb to solar infuse and add into any salve or cream!
