Botanical Name: Rubus idaeus

Origin: New York, USA

Raspberry is a biennial, deciduous shrub. It is a member of the Rose family and native to many parts of Europe, north America and Western Asia. It has dark grey-green leaves, prickly stems, and bears bright red berries and white flowers, usually blooming in the spring.

The first records of the domestication of Raspberries comes from the writings of Palladius, a Roman agriculturist. In North America, Raspberry leaves were made into a tea and given to women in members of the Cherokee, Iroquois and Mohawk nations to help with their cycles and pregnancies.

Raspberry leaves are rich in manganese, B vitamins, zinc and calcium, as well as antioxidants. This herb is known to help strengthen the uterine muscle in preparation for childbirth, as well as helping to alleviate morning sickness. Can also be used for menstrual cramping and digestive discomfort such as indigestion and bloating.
