THINK SPRING!
Sage is a low growing evergreen shrub part of the mint family. It can grow up to 2.5 feet tall. It has leaves that are silvery-green in color, and produces lavender-purple flowers in the spring and early summer. Pollinators love sage!
This herb was very popular in the Middle Ages through the 18th century, and has now been a resurgence of late, in part based on its many uses and benefits. The Latin name Salvia means 'to heal'. Martin Luther once said "Why should man die when sage grows in his gardens?".
Today sage is commonly known to help with colds, flus and fevers and sore or hoarse throats. Taken as a tea it is known to help reduce stress and calm the nerves. Sage also can help menopausal women with relief from night sweats. Externally this herb is great to use as an antiseptic, to help prevent infection and inflammation in wounds.
Precautions: large doses not recommended to be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding, with the chances it could dry up breast milk*
We like to incorporate dried Sage into our tea blends for colds and flus. It is also a great culinary herb to include in baked goods or cooking. It can also be infused in oils to make antiseptic salves or ointments!
All of our dried herbs are locally grown in Jamesport, NY at our certified organic farm. We start each herb from seed or root cutting on farm, hand tend it until peak potency, then mindfully harvest. Next, each herb is small batch dried, processed, and bagged for sale.
