Spilanthes Leaf & Flower, organic

Spilanthes is a member of the Asteraceae family. The plant has elongated-conical that contain hundreds of tiny red, yellow and orange hued disc flowers. The plants flower head is known to resemble a hive or an artfully arranged eyeball. Spilanthes is low growing with erect stems and ovate, toothed leaves that end in a sharp tip.

This herb is used in several healing traditions worldwide, such as: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and Western Folk Herbalism. In Ayurveda the plant has a long used history and was thought to have an effect on all three doshas (three categories of fundamental regulatory principles of the body, mind, and behavior). In some traditions the fresh leaves have been eaten in small amounts as food, which add unique flavoring to salads or cooked greens!

Today, Spilanthes is commonly known to be used in mouth and dental health. It is said to help with infections, and can help stimulate mucous membranes and the immune system to fight off respiratory infections. It can also be used as a local anesthetic to ease the discomfort of pain.

All of our dried herbs are locally grown in Jamesport, NY at our certified organic farm. We start each herb from seed or root cutting on farm, hand tend it until peak potency, then mindfully harvest. Next, each herb is small batch dried, processed, and bagged for sale.
