THINK SPRING!
Yarrow is a flowering perennial, part of the Asteraceae family and is commonly found in North America but originally native to Europe and Asia. It's leaves are soft and look almost feather-like, and are highly segmented. It grows stalks during the summer, and has clusters of tiny white-sometimes-light pink flowers at the tops of the stalks.
This herbs Latin name is Achillea which comes from the legendary Greek hero Achilles. According to the legend Achilles mother dipped him into the river Styx by the ankle in an effort to make in invulnerable. The warrior was told to use Yarrow to help treat the wounds of his fellow soldiers.
Yarrow has hemostatic properties that are known to help treat injuries. Internally it is known to be taken to help stop internal bleeding, and it's also a strong diaphoretic that helps lower fevers. Externally Yarrow can act as an antiseptic that is known to help fight against infection.
We love to use dried Yarrow in a a couple of ways. It is great to add to tea blends for expelling fevers, colds and flus. It can also be solar infused into an oil to create salves and creams!
