THINK SPRING!
Native to southern Europe and Egypt, calendula (also known as pot marigold) is grown for medicine and its beauty worldwide. Calendula infused oil is an oft-used base for home and commercially prepared salves, creams, and ointments. Can also be tinctured or used in tea blends.
Calendula is an annual plant with showy yellow and orange flowers, sticky with resin. We hand pick blossoms mid-day when resins are the highest, and just as the blossoms open. Calendula is a pollinator and beneficial insect attractor, and a very useful patio and companion plant on our farm. Considered antiseptic, calendula is widely used in topical treatments to heal burns, tissue injury, dry skin, and hemorrhoids.
No known precautions, but should be avoided if you have allergies to members of the Asteraceae family*
Calendula is a very versatile and healing herb. We like to solar infuse the dried blossoms into oil and make lip balms, salves and creams with it! But it can also be added to herbal tea blends or herbal bath soaks.
All of our dried herbs are locally grown in Jamesport, NY at our certified organic farm. We start each herb from seed or root cutting on farm, hand tend it until peak potency, then mindfully harvest. Next, each herb is small batch dried, processed, and bagged for sale.
